A story recognized across jiu-jitsu

José Henrique Leão Teixeira Filho, known as Mestre Leão Teixeira, is an IBJJF 8th-degree red-and-white coral belt and one of the people who helped build the history of jiu-jitsu in Brazil and worldwide.
A student of Rolls Gracie, promoted to black belt by Carlos Gracie Jr., he was there at the founding of Gracie Barra and took part in founding the CBJJ/IBJJF.
What makes Mestre Leão Teixeira unique is his teaching vision. In the 1980s he led the very first kids classes at Gracie Barra, back when almost no one paid attention to children. That experience led to the Leão Teixeira Jiu-Jitsu School in Rio de Janeiro, founded in 1992, where jiu-jitsu became a tool for education.
